I went to my friend's art show the other day! I really liked these highway silhouettes. And here she is in mid-laughter next to a colorful piece. This one's kind of Keith Haring meets Murakami, no?
So after the show, I started to think that maybe the Pop Art genre is big over at this school (HBU). My brother also did his art thesis on Warhol and Licthenstein when he studied there a couple years back. It's like how NYU was so big on performance & video art. I guess every art school's got their own influences, huh?
Man I miss going to art shows and receptions. It really brought me back... Like how my pet rabbit was in a show once, or how I did a performance piece where we smashed pinatas, or how someone made a giant squid that stuck out of the entire art building. And of course every single opening reception was like a giant drunken party. Liquor would run out so fast that we had to bring our own wine. The whole place was always trashed afterwards. No wonder our department was the least funded. I felt bad for those janitors sometimes. But that was the life. Everyone dressed up too. You either came all weird lookin' or you came all spiffy.
